At your local KB Toys, there is a sale on a 20-pack of AA batteries (I'm not sure of the brand, but probably some no-name) for $5 and there is a $5 rebate on the box, making it free. Probably not the best ones to use in important things like a smoke detector or remote control :} but perfect to power the kid's toys.
